Practical guidance

How to talk about intimate skin care

Intimate skin concerns are common, but they can feel difficult or embarrassing to discuss. Use clear, respectful and neutral language, and allow the customer to describe their needs in their own words.

Focus on comfort, dryness, sensitivity, cleansing and skin protection rather than making assumptions about the cause of the symptoms. Simple questions such as “Does the skin feel dry, irritated or sensitive?” can help guide the conversation.

Avoid diagnosing medical conditions. Persistent pain, unusual discharge, bleeding, sores, severe itching or recurring symptoms should always be assessed by a healthcare professional.

How to recommend cream cleansing

Cream cleansing can be a gentle alternative when water alone feels drying or when traditional soaps and washes cause discomfort.

Augusta Nordic Hydrating Shower Cream is designed to cleanse while helping the skin retain moisture. It can be used like a traditional wash: apply a small amount to damp skin, cleanse gently and rinse with water.

It may also be used as a leave-on moisturiser on external intimate skin when additional hydration is needed. Always recommend using only a small amount and following the instructions on the product packaging.

Choosing between the hydration products

The most suitable product depends on where the discomfort occurs and what kind of support the skin needs.

Hydrating Shower Cream is designed for gentle daily cleansing and hydration. It can be used as a rinse-off cream cleanser or applied in small amounts as a leave-on moisturiser for the external intimate area.

Soothing Hydration Gel provides lightweight, cooling hydration for dry, sensitive or uncomfortable external intimate skin.

Soothing Barrier Balm is a richer treatment balm when the skin needs protection from friction, moisture, sweating or everyday irritation.

Comfort Glide Gel is a water-based glide gel with a lightweight gel texture that also provides long-lasting hydration. It is not designed solely as a personal lubricant but also helps relieve discomfort caused by dryness.

More than one product can be recommended as part of a daily intimate skincare routine. For example, Hydrating Shower Cream is ideal for gentle cleansing while helping to maintain the skin's natural pH balance, Soothing Hydration Gel provides daily hydration, and Soothing Barrier Balm can be used in the evening to protect and nourish the skin overnight.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect the moisture balance, sensitivity and overall comfort of the external intimate skin.

A simple, gentle skincare routine is often the best approach. Customers can be advised to avoid heavily fragranced products and harsh cleansers, and instead choose products specifically developed for sensitive intimate skin.

Customers often ask whether intimate skincare products are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Augusta Nordic products are dermatologically tested natural cosmetics developed for sensitive skin. They can be recommended according to their intended use and the instructions provided on the product packaging.

Anyone experiencing unexplained pain, persistent itching, unusual discharge, bleeding, skin changes or any concerns related to pregnancy should be advised to contact a healthcare professional or their maternity care provider.

Sensitive skin and the skin microbiome

The skin microbiome is the community of microorganisms that naturally lives on the skin. A balanced skin environment is part of the skin’s natural protective function.

Frequent washing, harsh cleansing ingredients, fragrances and unsuitable pH levels may disturb sensitive skin and contribute to dryness or discomfort.

Augusta Nordic products are designed with sensitive intimate skin in mind. A gentle routine means cleansing only when needed, avoiding excessive rubbing and supporting the skin with suitable hydration and protection.

What to Avoid in Intimate Skincare

Many intimate skin concerns can be made worse by everyday habits. Encourage customers to keep their intimate skincare routine as simple and gentle as possible while avoiding unnecessary irritation.

In particular, it is advisable to avoid:

  • Heavily fragranced products, which may irritate sensitive skin.
  • Alkaline soaps and harsh cleansers, which can dry the skin and disrupt its natural protective barrier.
  • Unnecessary use of strongly antibacterial or disinfecting products, as they may disturb the skin's natural microbiome and protective barrier.
  • Over-cleansing and vigorous rubbing, which can increase dryness and skin sensitivity.
  • Tight or abrasive clothing if it causes friction, sweating or everyday discomfort.
  • Using skincare products to mask persistent symptoms. If symptoms are severe, recurring or do not improve, customers should be advised to consult a healthcare professional.

Remind customers that intimate skin often benefits from a simple and gentle skincare routine. Even small changes to everyday skincare habits can help reduce dryness, sensitivity and irritation while supporting the skin's natural
balance.

Healthy intimate skin is often supported by simple everyday choices. Gentle skincare and appropriate products can help maintain the skin's natural wellbeing and prevent many common skin concerns.

Common product questions

Can the products be used every day?

Yes, the products are designed for regular use according to individual needs. Customers should follow the instructions provided on each product.

Do the products contain fragrances?

The Augusta Nordic range has been developed specifically for sensitive intimate skin, and no artificial fragrances are added to our products. All products have a mild, neutral scent and are also suitable for people who are sensitive to fragrances.

You may notice "Parfum (Sage Oil)" listed in the ingredients of Hydrating Shower Cream. Sage oil is a natural essential oil that has not been added for its fragrance, but for its other properties.

Under cosmetic regulations, essential oils are declared as fragrance ingredients in the INCI list. This is why sage oil appears alongside the designation "Parfum", even though no artificial fragrances have been added to the product.

Can several Augusta Nordic products be used together?

Yes. Augusta Nordic products are designed to complement each other as part of a daily intimate skincare routine. They can be combined according to individual needs to support cleansing, hydration, glide and skin protection.

For many customers, the best results are achieved by using more than one product. For example, Hydrating Shower Cream is ideal for gentle cleansing, Soothing Hydration Gel for daily hydration, Comfort Glide Gel for glide and additional hydration when needed, and Soothing Barrier Balm to protect and nourish the skin, especially overnight or whenever extra protection is required.
